Books:

A Preliminary Study of the Colonial Landowners of Orangeburgh Township, SC  1733-1749.  This book identifies 175 plats that were surveyed in Orangeburgh Township between 1733-1749.  Most of them are shown on 7 maps included in the book.  The names of the 166 landowners associated with these plats have been coordinated with other records of the period to more clearly identify the various families who first settled the area.  Because most of these early landowners were German-Swiss immigrants, the name variations have often been a source of confusion.  An appendix gives a theoretical partially reconstructed ship's passenger list for the first group of 250 German-Swiss who arrived in July 1735.  The book is 8 1/2 x 11", 61 pages, comb bound and is available for $20 plus $5 shipping and handling.

A Preliminary Study of the Colonial Landowners of Orangeburgh Township, SC 1750-1775.  This book identifies 194 plats that were surveyed in Orangeburgh Township between 1750-1775. Many of them are shown on 8 maps included in the book.  The names of 150 landowners associated with these plats have been coordinated with other records of the period to more clearly identify the various families who owned land in the township.  The plats in this volume are confined to the area of the township that was established in 1733 even though the township boundaries became less accurate and not as significant during the timeframe covered by this volume.  The book is 8 1/2 x 11", 63 pages, comb bound and is available for $20 plus $5 shipping and handling.

The 1840 Orange Parish Census, Orangeburgh District, South Carolina. This book lists the 765 families that were enumerated in the 1840 Orange Parish census. Each free white and free colored person in a household is listed individually by sex and age group. Through the use of 1850 census records, cemetery transcriptions and other sources, possible identities have been suggested for about half of the individuals reported on this census. The references used for each household are listed with that household. Additional information has been added for some individuals covering such information as church affiliation or occupation. Comments about the 1840 census data have been added where pertinent. The book is 8 1/2 x 11", spiral bound, 252 pages and indexed by household. It can be ordered from the author for $30 plus $9 shipping and handling.
